Day 1: Sullivan’s Island Beach Day
I consider Sullivan’s Island as the local’s mysterious/calm-vibes beach. Check out this itinerary for your day at most Charlestonians” favorite beach spot:
- Enjoy a Delicious Meal:
- Burger at Poe’s Tavern: Start your day by heading to Poe’s Tavern, a local favorite known for its mouthwatering burgers and cozy atmosphere. Located just steps from the beach, it’s the perfect spot to indulge in a classic burger or explore some of their unique twists on the traditional American fare.
- Pizza at The Obstinate Daughter: If you’re in the mood for something a little more artisanal, head over to The Obstinate Daughter. Situated in a charming spot, this pizza joint serves up some of the best wood-fired pies on the island, with creative toppings and a fresh, rustic vibe that perfectly complements its laid-back beachside setting.
- Hit the Beach:
- Station 25: Your station for a relaxing beach experience. Enjoy a long walk to the beach along a serene nature path before arriving at this quiet, relaxing beach station.
- Station 29: Enjoy a short walk to the beach and scenic views like kite surfers and rocky jetties along the coast.
- Cool down with a refreshing treat:
- Frozen Rosé (Frosé) at Co-op: Once you’re ready to cool down, head over to Co-op, a hip local bar known for its refreshing Frosé. This frozen concoction of rosé wine and fruit is the perfect way to unwind and savor the flavors of summer.
- Affogato at Beard Cat’s Ice Cream Parlor: For those who enjoy a sweet treat with a twist, stop by Beard Cat’s Ice Cream Parlor for an affogato. This delightful dessert features a scoop of rich, creamy ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso.

While you can’t go inside, it’s definitely worth a drive-by for those interested in history or simply looking for a touch of mystery.
Day 2: Downtown Charleston (could be 2 days!)
- Pretty Streets:
- King Street (Shopping): A vibrant street filled with boutiques, high-end shops, and galleries. Perfect for window shopping and exploring.
- Market Street (Souvenirs): Head here for the Charleston City Market and local crafts. A great place to pick up souvenirs.
- East Bay Street (Food & Photo Ops): Offers stunning views of the harbor and some of Charleston’s best culinary spots.
- Broad Street (Food & Photo Ops): This street is home to iconic Charleston architecture and excellent restaurants, offering plenty of photo opportunities.
- Pretty Sights:
- Rainbow Row: A picturesque row of colorful historic houses, perfect for photos and a stroll.
- The French Quarter: A charming neighborhood with cobblestone streets, vibrant gardens, and beautiful architecture.
- The Battery: A scenic promenade lined with historic homes and views of the harbor. You can admire the grand mansions by the water.
- Churches:
- St. Philip’s Church: Known for its stunning architecture and historical significance.
- St. Michael’s Church: One of Charleston’s most iconic churches, with beautiful gardens.
- French Huguenot Church: A lovely historic church located in the heart of Charleston.
- Meals:
- Breakfast: Miller’s All Day: Great for a laid-back, Southern breakfast with options like biscuits and grits.
- Lunch: 167 Raw: An excellent seafood spot with fresh oysters and other seafood dishes.
- Happy Hour: Darling Oyster Bar: Enjoy dollar oysters and delicious seafood cocktails during happy hour.
- Dinner: Magnolias or Chubby Fish:
- Magnolias: Known for classic Southern cuisine with a twist.

Day 3: Trip to Kiawah Island
- Visit the Angel Oak Tree: Start your day with a visit to the legendary Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island, just outside Charleston. Estimated to be over 400 years old, this sprawling live oak is one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the Lowcountry. Take some photos, enjoy the shade, and appreciate its massive branches draped in Spanish moss.
- Charleston Tea Garden: Next, head to Charleston Tea Garden, the only tea plantation in North America. Take a trolley tour through the tea fields, learn about the tea-making process, and sample their signature American Classic Tea. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop to bring home some locally grown tea.
- Charleston’s Winery: Just a short drive from the Tea Garden, Deep Water Vineyard is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a tasting of locally made muscadine wines. Walk through the vineyard, meet the farm’s resident animals, and savor the flavors of South Carolina wine.
- Lunch Stop: Boxcar Betty’s: Before heading to the beach, grab a casual but delicious lunch at Boxcar Betty’s, famous for their gourmet fried chicken sandwiches. Try the “Boxcar” with pimento cheese, peach slaw, and house pickles, or go for the “Chicken Not So Waffle,” featuring a sweet and spicy maple sauce.
- Kiawah Beachwalker Park: Drive down to Kiawah Beachwalker Park, one of the most beautiful and serene beaches in South Carolina. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon swimming, sunbathing, or strolling along the pristine shoreline. The beach is well-equipped with restrooms, showers, and picnic areas, making it a comfortable spot to spend the day.
- Sunset & Dolphin Watching at the Inlet: For a truly unforgettable experience, take a right and walk down to the inlet as the sun begins to set. This area is known for strand feeding, a unique hunting technique where dolphins work together to push fish onto the shore. If you’re lucky, you might witness this rare and fascinating behavior up close.
Day 4 (Half Day): Ravenel Bridge Walk
Start on Either the Charleston or Mt. Pleasant Side
- Charleston Breakfast/ Lunch Option: Mercantile & Mash (701 E Bay St, Charleston, SC)
- Enjoy a high-quality breakfast with options like avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches, and freshly brewed coffee.
- Located inside the historic Cigar Factory, it has a cool industrial-chic atmosphere with a small market for shopping
- Mt. Pleasant Lunch/ Dinner Option:
- Grace & Grit (more of a sit-down restaurant, great for seafood and Southern-inspired dishes).
- The Grit Counter (a casual, order-at-the-counter spot with amazing grit bowls and sandwiches).
- Both are excellent choices depending on what kind of dining experience you’re in the mood for.
- Walk the Bridge
- The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge spans about 2.5 miles one way.
- Walking the bridge gives you breathtaking views of the harbor, Charleston skyline, and surrounding waterways.
- If you don’t want to walk the whole bridge, you can walk up to the first peak and back down for a shorter trek.
- Optional: take the water Taxi back to where you started!
- Instead of walking back over the bridge, hop on the Charleston Water Taxi for a scenic ride across the harbor.
- The water taxi runs at set times, so be sure to check the schedule in advance.
- You’ll get a chance to see dolphins and enjoy a breezy ride on the water
Day 5: Shem Creek
- Start your day on the water: Rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the scenic Shem Creek, paddling past marshes and possibly spotting dolphins along the way.
- Stroll the Shem Creek Boardwalk: Walk along the pier, take in the waterfront views, and watch local shrimp boats in action. If you’re lucky, you might see fishermen bringing in the day’s fresh catch.
- Snack at Saltwater Cowboys: Stop by for their famous “trashcan” nachos while enjoying the laid-back, waterfront atmosphere.
- Pick up fresh seafood for dinner: Swing by Wando Shrimp Co. to grab some freshly caught shrimp to cook up later!
Day 6: Isle of Palms Beach
I consider this the popular, “classic” beach-vibes beach.
- Take a scenic walk – Stroll along or under the iconic Isle of Palms Pier for stunning views of the coastline and the Atlantic.
- Relax at The Windjammer – Enjoy live music and a cold beer at this popular beach bar, where the laid-back vibe and ocean breeze make for the perfect spot to unwind.
Day 7: Pitt Street/Old Village
- Walk along the Pitt Street Bridge – Take a stroll across this historic bridge, offering scenic views of the water and surrounding landscapes. Fun fact: Scenes from The Notebook were filmed here!
- Wander through the Old Village – Explore the charming streets of the Old Village, admiring the beautiful architecture and the peaceful, historic atmosphere.
- Dinner at The Post House – Enjoy a delicious meal at this cozy, renowned local spot, offering classic Southern fare with a modern twist.
- Indulge in a milkshake at the Old Pitt Street Pharmacy – Treat yourself to a nostalgic milkshake from this classic pharmacy turned soda fountain.
- Take the plunge off the tower (at high tide only, and with caution!) – For a thrill, jump off the tower into the water—just be sure it’s high tide for safe landing!
Day 8: Middleton Place Plantation
- Explore the grounds – While the house tour is optional, the stunning grounds themselves offer plenty to admire. Stroll through lush gardens and scenic landscapes to soak in the beauty and history.
- Walk along the river – Take a peaceful walk outside the house, following the river’s edge for beautiful views and a quiet retreat.
- Dine at Middleton Restaurant – If you visit in the evening, you can enjoy a meal at the Middleton Restaurant without needing to pay for admission to the property, all while getting a great glimpse of the grounds.
- Experience the swamp – Don’t miss the swamp, which is the highlight of the visit! Keep an eye out for beautiful egrets nesting during certain times of the year—it’s a breathtaking sight.
Day 9: Cypress Gardens
- Visit a The Notebook filming location – Head to this iconic spot from the movie and relive a piece of cinematic history.
- Canoe rental on a budget – Rent a canoe at an affordable price and explore the serene waters, taking in the natural beauty around you.
- Watch for alligators – Keep an eye out for alligators basking in the sun—it’s a unique and exciting wildlife experience!
Day 10: Folly Beach
- Relax at Chico Feo – This laid-back, cool outdoor bar is perfect for a fun time, featuring live music, delicious ramen, and tasty tacos. Just a heads-up: mosquitoes can be a nuisance during certain times of the year in the evenings!
- Shuck oysters at Bowen’s Island Restaurant – For a unique, fun night out, head to Bowen’s Island Restaurant to shuck your own steamed oysters while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
- A Dear John filming location – Folly Beach also made its mark in the movie Dear John, so be sure to take in the sights from this iconic scene.
- Kayak rental near Folly Beach – If you’re looking for more outdoor adventure, you can rent a kayak and explore the nearby waters for a peaceful escape.
